Join us for a concert of music that bridges the centuries, bringing together the ethereal sounds of Gregorian chant with the innovative spirit of 20th and 21st-century composition. Our concert features the works of four distinguished composers: Maurice Duruflé, Gabriel Fauré, Arvo Pärt, and Cecilia McDowall, each of whom has woven the ancient melodies of Gregorian chant into their modern musical tapestries. Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem stands as a monumental work that beautifully integrates Gregorian chant themes with lush harmonies and textures, creating a serene yet powerful spiritual experience. Gabriel Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine, with its elegant simplicity and tender lyricism, complements the ancient chant with a touch of French romanticism. Arvo Pärt composed The Beatitudes - a piece inspired by the blessings in Jesus' Sermon on the Mount while Cecilia McDowall’s Aurea Luce offers a fresh and dynamic interpretation of the timelessness of Gregorian chant.
